Keeping Our Loved Ones Close to Home
The New Stonewall & District Personal Care Home
Building a New Personal Care Home, Close to Home
Having a family member move into a personal care home (PCH) is difficult, even when the facility is close to home. When a loved one is hours away, it can be emotionally and financially devastating.
The Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority region has the lowest number of PCH beds per capita in Manitoba, and all too often, our families have seen the people they love leave their home community when it’s time to move to a PCH.
Now, the province is partnering with the RMs of Rosser, St Laurent and Woodlands and the Town of Stonewall to build a 143-bed personal care home in Stonewall to serve everyone in the region.
The municipal partners have committed to raise $10 million from community to ensure our new PCH will be built, and that it will be designed to meet our communities’ needs – your needs.
This is a rare opportunity for each one of us to help shape the long-term care facility that will serve us, our families and our region for generations to come.
The Care We Deserve
We thrive in a connected, mutually supportive community all our lives. Why should that suddenly and drastically change when we reach the point of needing long-term care?
The community’s investment of $10 million will ensure our new PCH features the best spaces and amenities for our most precious resource – our amazing people.
Our new personal care home was developed by and for our community and designed so that people can thrive, with dignity, stimulation and companionship.
The 3-storey PCH is designed around a modern, small house model, featuring 12 households (units) with 11 or 12 people sharing each household. Each household will have everything any home does – a comfortable living room, a dining room where everyone can eat together, a cozy den, a kitchen to prepare meals and snacks, spacious, comfortable bedrooms and access to the outdoors through a balcony or patio.
One household will be dedicated to French language care, to reflect and serve our area’s unique populations.
This is the care we deserve. This is the kind of home we can build together.
Your New PCH Will Have Beautiful Spaces
Private, Comfortable Rooms
Everyone will have a large, bright, private room they can make their own with treasured pictures and familiar objects. Each room will have a private washroom, a large window, a shower and a state-of-the art track system to help people move to any part of their room with dignity and ease.
Spaces for Activities and Social Connection
Residents will take part in their favourite activities and socialize with their neighbours in spacious gathering and recreational spaces. Community will come together for special events, concerts, family fun days and holiday dinners in the large, multi-purpose area that opens onto the backyard.
Beautiful Outdoor Spaces
In the huge backyard, people will enjoy fresh air, gardening and group activities. There will be accessible paths, a screened gazebo, a garden swing, raised garden beds and peaceful seating areas. A serene ceremonial garden will feature traditional plantings and a fire circle for all residents and visitors to use.
Welcoming Spaces For Families
To make visiting as home-like as possible, there will be intimate lounges and a cozy family-dining area for special occasions or to share a meal. People visiting from afar will have access to private accommodations, and residents will be able to connect virtually with loved-ones in video-equipped rooms.
You Are Critical to Bringing This New PCH to Our Area
Funds raised from families, individuals, businesses and groups will create the best possible PCH experience, with spaces and amenities that make people’s transitions to long-term care easier for them and their families.
Together, we can ensure people have the best care, closer to home.
Community donations are being collected and receipted by the Interlake Community Foundation, with all funds going directly to creating a nurturing environment where dignity, respect, and care are paramount.
